hobocu

I began macro photography in 2025, starting with an iPhone 14 Pro before moving to the Nikon Z9 with the 105mm macro lens, Godox V860II flash and Cygnatech diffuser. My goal is to capture the often overlooked details of life—skittish insects, low-light forest scenes, and other glimpses into the macro world—particularly around my home town Port Macquarie, NSW Australia. As I approach retirement, I’ve adopted the name hobocu (High Observation of Beauty Outdoors & Creation Unseen) to share these discoveries more widely.

About the Bilby

The bilby is a nocturnal marsupial native to Australia—quick, curious, and quietly resilient. I chose it as my logo because it reflects how I like to work: attentive in low light, finding detail where it’s easy to overlook. It’s also a nod to conservation and to the Australian landscapes that inspire much of my macro photography, with a common focus on the Mid North Coast.
